Ashtanga Vinyasa: The Foundation & Fire of our Practice with Rosemary Garrison

November 22 @ 2:30-4:30pm
The Pad Studios,
Cost: $45 - 15% off for Members

Where did this practice come from? What are we actually up to on our mats?  Vinyasa Flow was born from Ashtanga Yoga, a traditional practice developed by Pattabhi Jois in India in the 1940s. Many of the poses are the same in the two streams, however Ashtanga Yoga has a unique rigor and intensity, and includes some truly extraordinary postures.

In this workshop, we will discuss the origins of asana practice, its evolution into Vinyasa, the greater unfolding of the asana practice over time and how that all impacts us as practitioners. We will also practice the Primary Series, the introductory series in the Ashtanga lineage. Participants can expect a greater understanding of the roots of their practice, a challenging and illuminating asana flow, and a deep dive into the essence of this path.

Rosemary Garrison was fortunate to begin her practice with Tim Miller, one of Jois’s first students in the west. She studied in the traditional Ashtanga style for years before adapting to Vinyasa. She was also able to work directly with Jois during his NYC tour in 2002. Join Rosemary for this exploration of both the foundation and the fire of our practice.
