Join Yoga Philosophy and Sanskrit scholar, Kate Holcombe, for an inspiring and insightful workshop on the history of Yoga philosophy and specifically, the richness of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. In this workshop we will primarily focus on the history of yoga philosophy as a means to help us reduce our experience of suffering and feel better in everyday life. We will also explore the differences between yoga philosophy and Hinduism, and how these two distinct philosophical systems have become confused and enmeshed over time.
It is appropriate for yoga enthusiasts of all levels and will include both lecture and discussion.
Bio:
Kate is founder and director of Healing Yoga Foundation, a non-profit project of Commonweal dedicated to supporting and empowering individuals in their own health, healing, and personal development through yoga, regardless of ability, background, experience, or financial means.
Kate began her yoga education in 1991 as a student of T.K.V. Desikachar in Chennai, India, returning many times for extended periods of intensive one-on-one study until his death in 2016. In conjunction with her yoga studies, Kate has studied Sanskrit at UC Berkeley, and the Kuppuswami Sastri Research Institute (Madras Sanskrit College) in Chennai, India.
Kate leads workshops and trainings for students around the country and is a popular writer, lecturer, teacher trainer, and yoga therapist. She is known for her practical, straightforward approach, her clarity and authenticity, and her relatable examples.
